Is it possible to have a lawyer review my Will?

Yes. We do offer a service to have your Will reviewed by one of our estate planning lawyers. The cost for this service is $69. If you feel that you would benefit from this service, you should firstly complete your Will and add the Will service to your account. Then, from your member home page, scroll to the bottom and select "Legal Document Review".

Your completed document will then be made available to one of our lawyers, who will login to their account to view the Will. After a couple of days you will receive a written review that will include suggestions, recommendations and reassurances.

If you have stepped through the service and selected the most popular options, then the legal document review may not be necessary. For example, if your entire estate is to go to your spouse, and then, if you are both involved in a common accident, the estate will pass to your children. The legal review is of limited value. However, if you have selected the options "none of the above, let me describe how I wish to distribute my estate" it may be a good idea to have one of our lawyers review your Will.

The "none of the above....." option provides the most flexibility in creating a unique distribution plan for your estate, but it can catch some people out. There is a possibility that you could include instructions that are not legal, or that are impossible to administer. For example, "I leave everything to my daughter as long as she doesn't marry outside of our religious denomination".This is impossible to enforce - what would happen if she married outside of the denomination 50 years from now, what would happen to the bequest?

Although this is an extreme example, it demonstrates the flexibility of this option within the service. If you are trying to create a unique distribution plan, or have specific instructions, there may be value in having the final document reviewed by one of our legal team.
